Tracie Hervy Fine Ceramics

Looking at the ceramics made by Tracie Hervy you can see why she thinks the work of the artisan as spiritually elevating, its a philosophy echoed by Alain De Botton, that it’s life affirming to have things that are beautiful in the world.

There is something special about the relationship between a handmade crafted object that is then passed on to become something significant in someone’s life, a cyclical transference of energy now lives and radiates within that thing, giving it a living presence. Its one of the reasons I adore shopping at markets on my travels, some things just radiate with energy and to put it simply, I think that’s what we understand as beauty.

In Tracys works there is a simplicity that makes space for subtle evocations of the formation process. The lines thrown from the wheel rest beneath delicate surfaces to produce refined understated earth-ware. Her most recent work is inspired by the simplicity of prehistoric vessels, all superfluities are stripped away to reveal the essence of: cup; bow; plate.

Tracie Hervy's education in ceramics began in the studios of Greenwich House Pottery in NYC. She later studied at the Rhode Island School of Design where she received an MFA in ceramics.Tracie’s work can be found here at retailers of fine ceramics.
